'It got thrown in, it got thrown out': Man speaks out after grenade thrown inside Philadelphia home

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The bomb squad safely removed a grenade after it was thrown into a home in Philadelphia's Feltonville section.

Now, the homeowner is speaking out about the incident, saying that his four children were sleeping just feet from the grenade.

Authorities say someone threw the explosive into a home on the 400 block of Courtland Street at 2 a.m. on Thursday.

The sound of the grenade crashing through the downstairs window woke up everyone in the house.

It did not go off, so someone inside threw the grenade back into the street.

"I just reacted immediately and just did what needs to be done," said the homeowner who asked we not use his name or show his face. "It got thrown in, it got thrown out."

He said he is still shaken up, angry and confused about the whole thing.

"I just bought the property, so I have no idea who could have a beef with the property," he said, adding that his family has only been in the home for about two weeks.

The home was evacuated until authorities recovered the device.

Action News has learned that the device was determined to be non-explosive and of no danger to the public -- but that doesn't make the homeowner feel any better.

"This is something that's out of the ordinary. Hopefully they figure out what's going on so we can get to the bottom of it," the homeowner said.

At the moment, he says there's more questions than answers as he tries to figure out who and why someone would target his home.

"Just glad that everybody is OK, and hope it never happens to anyone else," he added.

Officials did not report any injuries.
